Thomas' Trouble
Thomas was feeling very pleased with himself. He had just completed a long journey and was waiting for his next job. Gordon was still tired from the morning's work and was resting at the station.
"Look at me," Thomas boasted. "I've been working hard all day, and I'm not tired at all!"
Gordon, who was annoyed by Thomas's bragging, said, "It's easy for you to say. You've only been pulling small coaches. Try pulling a heavy goods train!"
Thomas was determined to prove himself. He asked the Fat Controller if he could pull a goods train. The Fat Controller agreed and soon Thomas was coupled to a long line of heavy trucks.
Thomas started off confidently, but the trucks were very heavy. He puffed and puffed, but he couldn't make it up the hill. The trucks were pushing and bumping into each other, and Thomas felt like he was being pulled in all directions.
At last, Thomas reached the top of the hill, but he was exhausted. He had learned that pulling heavy goods trains was much harder than he thought. He promised himself that he would be more respectful of the big engines in the future.
